PSU wins 11 awards for excellence in marketing and communications

Portland State University won a record 11 awards for excellence —  including seven first-place winners — in communications and marketing at the annual Council for Advancement and Support of Education conference this month. 

The awards are judged by peers across western United States and Canada and presented to staff members of PSU’s University Communications at the Seattle conference. The region includes universities, colleges and community colleges in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia and the rest of western Canada.

The awards are:

  • Gold (first place) went to University Communications staff in the category of “Innovation in fundraising, special event and other communications” for the Portland State of Mind series of events. 
  • Two gold awards went to Peter Simon, Brett Forman, Evan Kirkley, Saho Miyazaki, Bess Pallares and Marilynn Sandoval in the categories of “Multimedia for special events” and “Innovation in video and multimedia” for the promotional media for Portland State of Mind. 
  • Gold went to Harry Esteve, Peter Simon, Chelsea Kastelnik, Brett Forman, Evan Kirkley and Julie Wallis in the category of “Student recruitment videos” for the Do Something Great video.   
  • Gold went to Harry Esteve, Brett Forman, Amanda Katz, Kari St. Peters, Julie Smith and Mark Wubbold in the category of “Special purpose publications” for the “Let Knowledge Serve the City: PSU Strategic Plan 2016-2020” publication.  
  • Gold went to Suzanne Pardington Effros in the editorial writing category for her profile in the Portland State Magazine, “Her Tribe, Her Future.”  
  • Gold went to NashCo Photography, Brett Forman, Evan Kirkley, Chelsea Kastelnik, Julie Smith and Harry Esteve in the photo series category for the “Let Knowledge Serve” campaign. 
  • Silver (second place) went to Julie Smith, Harry Esteve, Wenye Tang, Brett Forman and NashCo Photography in the category of “Branding and image development/identity programs and projects” for the Portland State MBA viewbook. 
  • Silver went to Brennan Aitken-Gantz, Clive Knights, Kurt Stoll, Kat Leavitt, Willy Chandler, Aaron Prinz, Tucker Jones and Rachel Stehly, Brett Forman, Julie Smith, Chelsea Kastelnik and Karen O’Donnell Stein in the category “Environmental graphic design” for Portland State of Mind Pavilion.  
  • Silver went to Harry Esteve in the editorial writing category for his Portland State Magazine article, “The Muslim Student Experience.” 
  • Bronze (third place) went to Brett Forman, Harry Esteve and Julie Smith in the category of “Viewbooks and prospective student publications” for the “Five Absolute Best Reasons Why You Should Choose PSU” brochure.
