PSU plans for August 11-14 heatwave

An excessive heat warning is in effect from Wednesday, Aug. 11, to Saturday, Aug. 14, with high temperatures expected to exceed 100°F.

On-campus cooling stations

The health and safety of our community is of paramount importance to PSU. Portland State has designated three on-campus spaces as cooling stations to serve students and employees through this week’s forecasted heatwave. Air-conditioned public spaces in the following buildings will be open to anyone with a valid PSU ID card from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

  • Cramer Hall
  • Fariborz Maseeh Hall
  • Karl Miller Center

Extreme heat conditions significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, and we hope that these spaces will provide some relief for those in need.

On-campus student residents will also have access to a cooling station located on the second floor of the Broadway Building. Please note that face coverings are still required inside PSU buildings.

University Place Hotel special rates and cooling station

A few air conditioned rooms at University Place Hotel are available for rent by PSU community members Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights at a special base room rate of $89 per night plus tax (with PSU ID).

The hotel will also offer a cooling station for up to 50 members of the PSU community (with PSU ID) available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. For additional information, please contact the hotel at 503-221-0140 or uplace@pdx.edu.
