The Portland State University School of Music & Theater has released the 2024 edition of Subito, its academic journal authored, edited, and published entirely by PSU's musicology and ethnomusicology students. Subito is available in both print and online formats.

This year’s edition explores the theme of “The Body and Wellness of the Musician.” Articles explore topics that are relevant and essential to musicians, including piano music for only the left hand when the right hand isn’t available or needs a rest, the effects of obesity on a singer’s lungs, and the causes of and possible solutions to imposter syndrome in musicians. Other features include a faculty spotlight on Lisa Marsh, director of the Coordinate Movement program, an interview with Maxx Katz, the director and composer of the Yelling Choir,  and other well-researched, thought-provoking articles to expand the musician’s mind and skill sets.

Richie Green, a PSU student and the publication’s lead editor commented, “I'm incredibly proud to have been a part of assembling the seventh annual edition of Subito. It's been inspiring to witness the collaborative nature and vivacious curiosity of my peers. The works they've shared cover a vast array of topics, demonstrating the strong and multifaceted dedication to music at PSU.”

Since its inaugural publication in 2018, Subito has showcased the exceptional scholarship of PSU's School of Music & Theater students, supporting their journey to becoming the next generation of music journalists and academics.

Subito 2024, along with all past editions, is free to download on the journal’s website, and a limited number of print copies are available in the School of Music & Theater office in Lincoln Hall 231.
