PSU business alumna Judy Shelton picked for Fed nomination

President Donald Trump announced earlier this month that he intends to nominate Portland State University business alumna Judy Shelton (B.S. ‘76) for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the seven-member governing body of the Federal Reserve System.

In March 2018, Shelton was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the U.S. director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a multilateral development financial institution that uses investment as a tool to build market economies. She still holds the position.

Shelton was an economic adviser to President Trump’s campaign and served on his transition team. She has advised a number of Republican presidential candidates, including Bob Dole, Jack Kemp and Ben Carson.

Shelton previously served as a senior fellow and co-director of the Atlas Network’s Sound Money Project. The project is comprised of leading academics and practitioners in money, banking and macroeconomics who conduct research and promote awareness about monetary stability and financial privacy.

From 1995 to 2001, Shelton taught international finance as a visiting professor at the DUXX Graduate School of Business in Monterrey, Mexico. She has authored a number of books, including “The Coming Soviet Crash: Gorbachev’s Desperate Pursuit of Credit in Western Financial Markets” and “Money Meltdown: Restoring Order to the Global Currency System.” Her opinion pieces regularly appear in top-tier publications.

Shelton earned her MBA and Ph.D. in business administration, with an emphasis on finance and international economics, from the University of Utah.
