PSU-AAUP ratifies new contract with 96% approval

Portland State University is pleased to announce that members of the Portland State chapter of the American Association of University Professors (PSU-AAUP) have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new labor contract. With 96% of voting members in favor, the contract received broad support from faculty and academic professionals.

“I am deeply grateful to both bargaining teams for their unwavering dedication throughout this challenging negotiation process,” said Provost Shelly Chabon. “This agreement represents a positive step forward for our academic community during a time of immense change, and I'm confident it will strengthen our ability to support both our faculty and the students they serve.”

Negotiations began in June 2024 and included over 260 hours of negotiation before the teams announced on March 25 in a joint statement to the university community that the parties had reached a tentative agreement.

“Our new contract secures meaningful raises—including a front-loaded COLA to address inflation—while strengthening layoff protections, workload safeguards and professional development opportunities,” said David Kinsella, PSU professor of political science and PSU-AAUP vice president for collective bargaining. “Highlights like a graduated COLA, market and post-review increases, and new bilingual pay reflect our commitment to equity, recognition, and support for our members.”

The university and PSU-AAUP are now finalizing the new contract language and preparing for implementation.
