Opera for the #metoo era

Portland State University's new opera takes on toxic masculinity in a capitalist society. Titled "Mirror Game," the opera centers around a Silicon Valley gaming company and three programmers: Cybil, Melody and Olivia.

The programmers fight to survive in a sexist workplace, each relying on different social tactics as talent alone is not a guarantee of success. Cybil wants to take over the company and prove women are more capable than men, but her quest to become Silicon Valley's new female icon could cost her everything.

"Mirror Game" is the work of composer Celka Ojakangas and librettist Amy Punt. The opera will premiere for the first time at PSU starting Nov. 29. The opera runs at Lincoln Studio Theater through Dec. 8. Tickets are $15-$30.
