Portland State University celebrated the Viking Pavilion’s groundbreaking one year ago.
The eastern half of the 50-year old Peter W. Stott Center was leveled shortly after to make way for a new 3,000-seat event center and space dedicated to food service, studying, tutoring, advising and academic classes.
The western half of the building is undergoing substantial renovation, including a new athletics weight room completed in July 2016, and new athletics administration offices that are scheduled to be completed by August 2017. For the first time, the entire athletics administration team will live under the same roof.
Beyond collegiate athletics, the Viking Pavilion will serve as a regional event center for concerts, conferences, dinners, trade shows, high school sports and more. Capacity will be upwards of 3,400 for events like commencements and lectures with temporary floor seating. Six AV-equipped breakout rooms are available for rent inside the Pavilion.
The Pavilion is funded in part by Oregon Health & Science University, giving both universities access to a much needed event space. PSU Conference & Event Services is currently accepting reservation requests. Visit the department's website for sample floor plans and contact information.
The Viking Pavilion is scheduled to open on time for events in April 2018.
The renovation is fully funded through state bonds, private donors, OHSU and student fees. Funding does not come from general operating funds or tuition dollars. The new $50 million facility was designed by Portland's Woofter Architecture and Sink Combs Dethlefs Architects. Fortis Construction is the general contractor.
