Interim Provost Margaret Everett to depart PSU for Lesley University

Portland State University Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Margaret Everett is departing PSU to become provost at Lesley University in Massachusetts.

“Leaving PSU and the opportunity to work with this community committed to excellence and access is certainly bittersweet,” said Everett, who has been a faculty member and administrator at PSU for 21 years. “I want to thank President Shoureshi for the opportunity to serve as interim provost and all of my colleagues who have encouraged and supported me here.”

She will depart PSU after the academic year ends in June. Lesley is a private university in Cambridge with 9,625 students, most of them in graduate programs. 

Everett’s administrative accomplishments at PSU include establishing accelerated pathways into graduate programs, expanding research experiences for students, increasing study abroad opportunity and improving recruitment and admissions operations for graduate programs.

Portland State has been conducting a national search to appoint a new provost to start during the 2018-19 academic year. A 20-member search advisory committee assisted by a search firm has been reviewing candidates from across the nation. Headed by Interim Vice President for Research Jennifer Dill and PSU Trustee Margaret Kirkpatrick, the committee includes faculty, deans, students, administrators and staff. The panel is in the process of narrowing a large pool of candidates to select finalists who will visit PSU to meet with the campus community in April.
