The Portland State University Chamber Choir’s new album, “Ēriks Ešenvalds Translations” (Naxos) has been named an Editor’s Choice in Gramophone magazine’s May 2020 roundup of “The best new classical albums.”
The magazine’s review of the seven-work recording praises the “immaculate” artistry and “”luscious choral textures” of the ensemble, led by Ethan Sperry.

“Translations” has also earned kudos from James Manheim of AllMusic, who writes that the choir “punches way above its weight, and almost alone among U.S. university ensembles, furnishes competition for British collegiate choirs. . . . John Quinn of MusicWeb International joins in the chorus of praise, writing, “The scoring glows, with two soprano soloists carolling above the sound of the rest of the choir.
