Application deadlines

Students wanting to enroll in fall 2025, please follow the steps below to apply now. It is not too late to be considered for financial aid. 

Applicants for fall 2026 should apply by February 2026 to be considered for music scholarships.

Music Visiting Days

High school Juniors and Seniors, and college-level transfer students can arrange a visiting day at Portland State University's School of Music & Theater to attend classes, sit in on a large ensemble, and meet and ask questions of PSU music students and faculty. Come get to know us; we can't wait to meet you!

Tours of the School of Music & Theater are offered monthly. Meet our welcoming faculty, walk through the state-of-the-art facilities, and learn about the rich theater and music curriculum!

Music Undergrad Application Process

Sonic Arts & Music Production and Theater applicants do not need to audition or apply with the School of Music & Theater application, but like all applicants, they do need to apply through the main PSU application process.

Step 1: Apply to the School of Music & Theater

Our rolling admissions means students can apply for admission to the School of Music & Theater at any time in the year prior to the first day of classes. Auditions are part of the admission process.

Step 2: Apply to Portland State University

Students must apply to both the School of Music & Theater and Portland State University at large.

Step 3: Apply for Scholarships & Financial Aid

Learn about the multiple sources to fund your education and how to apply. The earlier you apply the more funds available.

Step 4: Audition

Admission and scholarships are awarded based on auditions. Auditions are available all year. When you apply, you'll be prompted to upload a video recording of yourself performing, or you can request an in-person audition.

All PSU Students Can Perform In Music Ensembles

Music majors and all other majors at PSU are welcome to try out for the PSU School of Music & Theater ensembles. Some of our ensembles don't even require you to try out!
