Specially commissioned as a gift for PSU by Jordan Schnitzer, Hy-At Ltsuq is a large abstract installation of multiple glass boxes containing smaller glass artworks along with assorted imagery and artifacts. From the artist's statement: "The artwork has conceptual seeds or responses pertaining to regional history, landscape, and philosophy. Most of these references are abstracted and addressed instinctively rather than illustrated. All our histories contain challenges and much of this painting is about these challenges."

About the artist

Therman Statom—sculptor, glass artist, and painter—is a pioneer of the contemporary glass movement, known for his life-size glass ladders, chairs, tables, constructed box-like paintings, and small-scale houses, all created through the technique of gluing glass plate together. Born in Winter Haven, Florida in 1953, Statom spent his adolescence in Washington, D.C. His interest in the arts grew from a fondness for painting, and he began to investigate ceramics at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). After an experimental glass blowing session with the artist Dale Chihuly, he was soon hooked on the spontaneity of glass blowing and its limitless possibilities.
