Artist statement: “The idea that served as inspiration for this sculpture on the grounds of the new Life Sciences Building of Portland State University was the highly geometrical and abstract visual representations of molecular structures. Like a tree, the sculpture will consist of a trunk and branches made of cylindrical tubes holding one hundred colored spheres.” The title of this sculpture refers to a natural covering found on seeds and fruit pits, which often makes them appear brightly-colored.
