Admissions | Applied Statistics Graduate Certificate

The program is primarily designed to provide a companion credential for students in other graduate programs (including Mathematics) who have demonstrated expertise in methods and techniques for the quantitative analysis and modeling of data, but it equally serves those who want to pursue just the graduate certificate.

Admissions Requirements

  • Meet PSU’s minimum requirements
  • Basic preparation in mathematics and statistics and in a particular disciplinary field that would allow for advanced work in statistical methods as well as applications in one or more content areas
  • Successful completion with a grade of “B” or better of calculus-based courses in probability and distribution theory. A background in basic statistical methodology is assumed. Prerequisites include: 
    • 3 terms of Calculus (Mth 251-253)
    • Linear Algebra (Mth 261)
    • Statistical methods course (Stat 452/552 or Stat 244)

Deadlines

This program offers rolling admissions for fall, winter and spring terms. The application closes 2 weeks before the term starts.

New Students

New students who have not yet applied to PSU must first apply to PSU.

 

Current Graduate Students

If you are currently a graduate student and wish to add the certificate to your program, please submit a GO-19 Request for Change of Major form. The form must be signed by your current department's Chair before submitting it to the Mathematics and Statistics department.
