CLAS Grad Student Accolades: Community Engagement & Career Progression for Spring/Summer 2024

  1. Madi Lou Alexander (Sociology Ph.D.) has received a position as a sexuality fellow on the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) Human Sexuality Department’s Sex Work team for Summer 2024.
  2. Paola Arroyo Vargas (Earth, Environment and Society Ph.D.) was hired as a postdoctoral researcher at Universidad de La Frontera, Chile.
  3. Bria Bleil (Environmental Science and Management MS) and Amanda Gannon (Environmental Management MEM) co-hosted an interactive educational table on macro- and microplastics for the Lents Winter Lights Festival: Lights in Lents Deep Sea Disco event in February 2024.
  4. Brandon Gilliland (Anthropology MA) co-chaired the conference planning committee of the 2024 annual meeting of the Northwest Anthropological Association.  
  5. Hannah Hilden-Reid (Anthropology MS) has been accepted into the PhD program in Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Working under the guidance of Professor Natalie Vasey, Hannah’s masters thesis documents that wild Red Ruffed Lemurs are not strictly day-active, showing activity throughout the 24-hour daily cycle. At UC Berkeley Hannah plans to further investigate the ecological roles of Madagascar’s endemic primates (lemurs), under the supervision of Dr. Onja Razafindratsima.  
  6. Alexander Morrison (World Language: German MA) is an intern at the Deutsche Kinderschule with SPARK for German, where he helps foster German language skills in preschool-aged children.
  7. Bodhi Norton (Sociology Ph.D.) was hired as Community Health Interviewer/Tester for the National HIV Surveillance Project’s Portland-based ChimeIn, a program facilitated by PSU’s School of Social Work in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority.
  8. Rachel Taub (Technical and Professional Writing MS) will be a Communications Intern at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility at the Argonne National Laboratory in Summer 2024.  Rachel will work with the Office of the Director of Communications to develop annual reports and impact statements that describe the groundbreaking research in scientific computing published by the ALCF over the course of the year. 
  9. Sri Vedantam (Sociology Ph.D.) was hired as a Graduate Research Assistant (Quantitative Data Analyst) on the Institute on Aging’s Behavioral Health Initiative.
