Portland State University Code of Student Conduct and Responsibility
By participating in testing, students agree to follow all University policies outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. This includes upholding academic integrity by completing only their own work, refraining from unauthorized collaboration, and not using prohibited materials or devices. Students are also expected to engage in respectful, professional communication with proctors, staff, and peers, and to maintain behavior that supports a safe and supportive testing environment. Violations will be reported to the instructor, the Office of Student Conduct within the Office of the Dean of Student Life, and the Disability Resource Center.
Working with Your Instructor
If there is any uncertainty about permitted materials, exam timing, or other details, ATS will confirm with the instructor. All exams are proctored on behalf of instructors and are in strict alignment with the instructor’s guidance. If a student chooses to test in any way that differs from the instructor’s guidance, ATS will notify the instructor immediately.
Health Check, Illness, Exposure, or Positive Test for COVID-19
- If you are feeling sick with cold or flu-like symptoms, please do not come to test with us. If you need medical attention, please consider calling the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) to discuss your symptoms and situation at 503-725-2800.
- If you need to reschedule your exam, please do so through RegisterBlast and coordinate with your instructor.
ATS Phone and Electronics Policy
To maintain the integrity of the testing environment, students are not permitted to have any electronic or Bluetooth-connected devices with them during their exam unless explicitly allowed by their instructor or approved as part of an accommodation. This does not include medically necessary devices, and please make proctors aware of their use if they are needed during your exam session.
Any violation of the electronics policy will result in the incident being immediately reported to the instructor, who will determine the next steps.
For students testing in private rooms: the use of computers or any other electronic devices in these rooms is not permitted unless explicitly authorized for an accommodation, or with the approval of your instructor. Any unauthorized use will be immediately reported to your instructor.
On Your Testing Day
- Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes, but no more than 15 minutes, before your exam start time. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the testing location in advance if you are not familiar with the area and building.
- If you think that you are going to be late for your exam, please call us at (503) 725-4459 to let us know so that we can prepare for your arrival. If you have not arrived by your scheduled exam start time and we have not heard from you within 20 minutes after your exam start time, your appointment will be canceled, and you will either need to book another appointment for a future date (with approval from your instructor) or make other arrangements with your instructor. This includes exams that are held remotely.
- PSU is a fragrance-free environment, and this includes Testing Services. Review more in the PSU Fragrance Free Value Statement. Due to the risk posed to others by strong scents/odors, and the chemicals they may contain, if you arrive smelling strongly of perfume, cologne, body spray, or other heavily scented products, we will not be able to have you test with us and you will have to make arrangements with your instructor or department.
- You must bring a current, valid photo ID and all required testing items, such as Scantron, blue books, and any other allowable testing materials. ATS does not provide these items. If you need to leave to procure a Scantron, blue book, or other allowable testing materials required for your exam, this time will be deducted from your exam time. Four-function calculators, scratch paper (if use is approved by your instructor), earplugs, and writing utensils are available for student use in our testing centers.
- You may not leave the testing area during your exam, except short bathroom breaks or break time designated by accommodations. Please use the restroom, pay for parking, and address other non-testing-related issues prior to starting your exam. Breaks must be taken within the vicinity of the testing location (reception area, hallway in front of the testing location, or closest restroom). All breaks taken are timed and reported to your instructor when needed.
- Only beverage containers with lids that completely close and seal to prevent spilling are allowed in the testing area, and these should be opened only while you are actively drinking from them.
- You will not be allowed to take any exam materials with you after the exam, including exam questions and scratch paper, unless ATS has received explicit guidance from your professor that this is allowed. If you would like your notes, scratch paper, or exam back after it is turned in, please email testingservices@pdx.edu to coordinate a time to retrieve those items from our administrative office (with permission from your instructor).
- All students who test with ATS must abide by the Portland State University Code of Conduct and this PSU Testing Services Student Testing Agreement. Violations will be reported to the instructor, the Office of Student Conduct within the Office of the Dean of Student Life, and the Disability Resource Center.
By testing with PSU Academic Testing Services (ATS), you acknowledge you have read and understand this Agreement and agree to abide by it in full.
