Oregon Adult Foster/Care Home Technical Assistance Webinars

THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING!

Thank you for your interest in the training and technical assistance series. This five webinar workshop series took place from February 24th, 2025 to March 13th, 2025. See below for answers to questions you may have about what's next.

Please be patient. Training hours and recorded webinars will be available on Workday Learning in the next month! Please reach out to afhtraining.spd@odhs.oregon.gov with questions about training credits.

The goal of these webinar workshops is to offer technical support and guidance to AFH providers. During each webinar, providers can ask specific questions, work on their own documents, and receive feedback in real time. The Institute on Aging will evaluate learning objectives, outcomes, and satisfaction with providers who participate.

ODHS/APD asked AFH providers what they would like to see in future trainings. The top five topics will be the focus of each webinar:

  • Person-centered care planning, including resident activities;
  • Documentation, including MAR charting, incident reports, and narratives;
  • Conflict management/de-escalation strategies for residents, family members, and staff;
  • Regulatory best practices (preparing for a site visit + common citations and how to avoid them); and
  • Business practices, a day in the life, resident rights

Recorded webinars, short highlight videos, and downloadable resources will be available at no cost on Workday Learning. Please contact afhtraining.spd@odhs.oregon.gov if you need assistance with Workday Learning.

As of fall 2023, there were over 6,000 licensed beds located in about 1,370 adult foster/care homes (AFHs) licensed by the Aging and People with Disabilities (APD) program of the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS). These AFHs serve an estimated 4,800 Oregonians with significant health and care needs, about 2,500 of whom pay primarily using Medicaid funds.

The Institute on Aging at Portland State University is offering a series of free webinar technical assistance workshops for adult foster home/care (AFH) providers in Oregon. The workshops will cover important topics like keeping residents safe, providing care that is centered around each resident’s individual needs and preferences (person-centered care), and improving quality of care.

These workshops were created based on what AFH providers told the ODHS/APD they wanted to learn. Experienced professionals in the community will lead the workshops.
