The spring 2022 edition of Subito, an annual academic journal of music written, edited and published entirely by PSU School of Music & Theater musicology and ethnomusicology students, is now available in print and online.

This year’s edition features insightful, provocative and informative articles centered on the theme of pioneering women in electronic music from around the world. This international focus is balanced by Pacific Northwest–based content, including a long-form interview with school director and electroacoustic composer Bonnie Miksch, research and reflection on a new work by composer Kirsten Volnes, a review of the PSU Queer Opera project’s return to the stage, articles on music pedagogy and scholarly research, book and album reviews and more.

“Our fifth annual edition of Subito includes a broad range of articles and features that show both the depth and breadth of research happening in our school,” says Dr. Miksch. “The content is fresh and inviting, and I am proud of the high quality of work our students are producing.”

First published in 2018, the journal showcases the scholarship of School of Music & Theater students as they work to establish careers as the next generation of music journalists and academics.

Subito 2022, along with all past editions, is free to download on the journal’s website, and a limited number of print copies are available in the School of Music & Theater office in Lincoln Hall 231.
