Professor, Mathematics Education

Nicole R. Rigelman is the stewart endowed professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Her expertise lies in preparing mathematics teachers and specialists to engage their students meaningfully in high-level mathematical thinking and discourse. A critical element in all of her work is supporting learners in experiencing the wonder, joy, and beauty of mathematics as a vehicle for positively influencing their identity and agency. 

Rigelman was an author of AMTE’s Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics; NCTM’s Catalyzing Change in Early Childhood and Elementary Mathematics, and co-chair of AMTE’s various mathematics specialist initiatives including the newly released Guidelines for Preparing and Supporting Elementary Mathematics Specialists.
