Calendar Join Environmental Science and Management for a winter seminar series on pollinators. Our series continues with Julia Low and Amber Valdez from the Oregon Zoo. Their talk is titled, "Butterfly Recovery at the Oregon Zoo."Julia Low and Amber Valdez are butterfly keepers at the Oregon Zoo. Julia has been a zookeeper working in conservation for more than 22 years and has been dedicated to the recovery of imperiled butterflies since 2008 at the Oregon Zoo. Amber has been an animal keeper for eight years working with a variety of animals in sanctuaries and zoo settings. She joined the OZ butterfly lab in 2018 and has enjoyed the more conservation-focused work that the butterfly lab is dedicated to. The Oregon Zoo strives to take action for the natural world and has several conservation programs in place. Pollinator-wise, the zoo has done extensive recovery work with the Taylor’s Checkerspot butterflyand the Oregon Silverspot butterfly.This series is supported by a generous donation from alum Steve Wille. research lectures & guest speakers presentation sustainability
