Madhu is an Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership & Policy. He is interested in the relationship between institutions and individuals, with a focus on how individuals might reproduce, reinforce, and be structured by institutional norms and values; or how they might engage in acts of reinterpretation, agency, and resistance. In particular, he explores how official discourses influence the everyday mindsets, beliefs, and actions of educators. These interests lie at the intersections of educational policy and the anthropology and sociology of education. Madhu teaches courses in educational leadership, and has previously led classes in the social foundations of education, teacher development, and psychology. Prior to joining the faculty at Portland State University, he worked as a teacher and school leader in New York City.
