Dot McElhone, PhD, is an associate professor in the Curriculum and Instruction Department at PSU and a former National Academy of Education/Carnegie Corporation Pre-Doctoral Literacy Fellow. Dr. McElhone completed her doctorate in curriculum and teacher education at Stanford University. Her research examines patterns of teacher-student talk around texts with an emphasis on teacher talk moves that press students to think further about their interpretations, elaborate on their ideas, and support their thinking with evidence. She has also conducted research into the use of video and discourse analysis to support teacher professional development in the area of facilitating classroom talk about texts. Dr. McElhone earned her teaching credential at Vanderbilt University and taught in the Portland area before beginning her doctoral program.
