We are excited to welcome Lillian Martz, Ph.D., PCLC, to PSU. She joins the College of Education as an assistant professor in the Counselor Education Department. Lillian comes to us from Montana, where she served as a school counselor at Seeley-Swan High School and a doctoral teaching assistant at The University of Montana.

Lillian received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from The University of Montana earlier this year, with a concentration in school counseling. She is licensed as a school counselor in Montana and has previously held licensure in Virginia, Maryland and Washington.

Her research interests include school counseling, crisis counseling and suicidality, group counseling, equity in college and career readiness, positive psychology and wellbeing for adolescents and educators, and multicultural issues in the counseling and counselor education fields.

Lillian is eager to meet PSU’s school counseling students, teach practicum courses and engage with schools and community organizations serving youth in the Portland area.

Outside of work, she's affectionately known as "Aunt Lily" to 11 nieces and nephews ranging in age from 5 months to 25 years. She and her partner share their home with two cats and two rabbits – who are all still working on getting along. In her free time, Lillian enjoys hiking, trivia, and is looking to start a competitive karaoke league here in Portland. Stay tuned!

Please join us in welcoming Lillian to the COE team!
