Currently Accolades: People for February 1, 2021

  1. Jola Ajibade, geography faculty, was interviewed for the article “People Migrate When They Can No Longer Meet Their Basic Needs,” in Kapital, the leading Slovakian newspaper, on Jan. 11.  
  2. Scott Burns, geology faculty emeritus, was interviewed by KGW8 about rain and potential landslides on Jan. 11, and about earthquakes and the Shake Alert system on Jan. 19.
  3. Ted Khoury, business faculty, has been named to the #ThinklistAmplify, a list of influential scholars on social media around issues of responsible business.
  4. Scholle McFarland, Brett Forman, Evan Kirkley, Jennifer Ladwig, Summer Allen and Paige Parker, University Communications; Cristina Rojas, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and James Wilson, now with the Portland State Foundation, were recognized for contributions to the Spring 2020 issue of Portland State Magazine, the University’s alumni magazine. The magazine won a CASE Gold Award for “Magazine on a Shoestring” (with limited resources) from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The cover feature, “1970: The Year That Shaped PSU,” written by former University Communications staffer Suzanne Pardington Effros, won a CASE Silver Award for feature writing.
  5. Gianna Russo-Mitma, education adjunct faculty, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Oregon Counseling Association (ORCA) on Nov. 5, 2020. The award recognizes people who have contributed substantially to ORCA and the profession of counseling.
  6. Peter Simon, Christina Williams and Heidi Williams, University Communications, were awarded a CASE Gold Award for “Video on a Shoestring” and a Silver Award for “Communications Pivot” by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for their video “PSU is Resilient.” 
  7. Rana Yaghmaian, education faculty, was awarded the Leona Tyler Award by the Oregon Counseling Association on Nov. 5, 2020. The award recognizes counselors who have made outstanding contributions to the profession, especially work with a significant impact statewide.
