Early Childhood Education

Early childhood education is a rewarding career for people who enjoy working with children and seeing them learn something new.

Early childhood educators support children during a pivotal time of cognitive development, academic achievement, and social-emotional learning. You’ll typically work in daycares or preschools with children from birth to age eight and get jobs as childcare center aids, preschool teachers, special education teachers, or childcare center directors or administrators.

Current demand on our early childcare system has reached crisis level and there are simply not enough skilled workers available to meet the growing need. You can help fill these needs through a rewarding career in childcare.

PSU offers a variety of programs that teach you to excel as an early childhood educator. Gain the skills and knowledge to help fill the gap and quickly get a job working in a daycare, child care center, or preschool.

Majors

The most common bachelor’s degrees earned by PSU graduates who work in early childhood education are Child, Youth, and Family Studies, Social Work, and Psychology. However, there is no required track for early childhood education. Having a bachelor’s degree will likely mean you’ll earn more money sooner and have more options when looking for jobs.
