Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I be admitted to the MS-AEDA program if I do not have a BA in economics?
- Yes – it is not a requirement to have an undergraduate degree in economics. Many of our students come from other areas of study.
- How long does it take to earn the MS-AEDA?
- The program can be completed in as little as 12 months.
- Do you require submission of test scores?
- No, GRE test is not required.
- Can I transfer credit for previous graduate work?
- We may accept up to 16 credits of graduate work from another institution that applies directly to the MS-AEDA degree.
- What are the terms of conditional admission?
- In general, students who are conditionally admitted must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 by the end of their first term of graduate study at PSU.
- What are the admission requirements for international students?
- What documents are required when applying for the MS-AEDA? You will need:
- A complete online application
- Unofficial transcript(s) with a completed bachelor’s degree.
- Show competency in calculus, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and statistics, either through a degree or relevant coursework. (P/NP is allowed)
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0-point scale).
- CV or resume
- Application essay
- Two letters of recommendation
- $67 application fee
- When is the deadline for application?
- Our application deadline will change depending on which terms you are applying for. Please check our website for more information.
- Is financial aid available?
- Can I use some of the courses I took as an undergrad as pre-admission credit?
- Pre-admission credits are graduate-level credits that were completed before being admitted to the MS-AEDA program, either at PSU or another institution. A maximum of 16 credits can be transferred. All courses must have earned a grade of B- or higher, except for PSU pre-admission courses, which can have a Pass grade. Non-PSU pre-admission courses cannot have a Pass grade. Additionally, undergraduate courses taken at a level below 500, such as EC 420, cannot be used to fulfill the graduate credit requirements, for example, of EC 520.
- Where do alumni of the MS-AEDA program find employment?
- The program is set to begin in the fall of 2024, so real-time data is not available yet. However, students who complete our program are likely to pursue careers in business, finance, consulting, research, government, and nonprofits.
- Will I be able to take advantage of the same resources as on-campus students do?
- Yes, online students are encouraged to obtain a Student ID and take advantage of all of the same resources as our on-campus students.
- Are there scholarships available for the program?
- The Department of Economics is currently not offering Graduate Assistantships. Please check with the Graduate School for additional resources.
