A Note to the PSU Community on the July 16 DACA Decision

To the PSU Community,
On July 16, a federal court in Texas issued a ruling partially suspending DACA. The ruling permits the continued processing of DACA renewals but does not allow for any new applications to be granted. The ruling does not impact students who currently have DACA status.
PSU continues to stand by our commitment to do everything we can to support Dreamers to achieve their aspirations and their PSU degree. In support of this, President Percy joined over 500 higher education and business leaders calling on the Senate to pass permanent legislation to protect our undocumented and DACAmented students.
For our PSU Dreamers, we are here for you. We will work with DACA recipients and other undocumented students in our community to continue to connect them with legal service providers on and off campus, mental and physical health services, and other support services.
First-Time DACA Applicants
If you have not applied for or been granted DACA before, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is prohibited from granting initial DACA applications, including the accompanying requests for employment authorization. This may change based on any future litigation. However, if you are wondering if you should still apply or are worried about what this means for you, we highly encourage you to seek immigration legal consultation (free of charge and confidential) with our attorneys at Student Legal Services to explore your options.
DACA Renewals
If you obtained DACA status on or before July 16, 2021, you can continue to file renewal applications and DHS has indicated that it will process them in the same manner as before the decision. DACAmented students who require assistance with renewing their DACA application are encouraged to meet with Student Legal Services for free confidential immigration consultation with attorneys. Renewals can still be accepted by DHS and your renewal should continue as normal.
