Virtual Ceremony

Ceremony Slides

Each student who applied to graduate and confirmed participation in the Commencement Ceremony will be invited to customize their slide for the virtual ceremony. If you opted in, or have received communications about your slide but have not updated your commencement slide, it will appear without a photo or message, as it does below. To opt-out of the virtual ceremony and have your slide removed from the conferral of degrees, complete this form. This will not impact your feature in the printed program.

You will receive emails from commencement@pdx.edu with instructions to customize your virtual ceremony slide with your preferred name, photo, message and may provide recorded pronunciation of your name. 

Your degree(s), major(s) & honors will be uploaded automatically. 

Ceremony slides will be shown during the Conferral of Degrees during Virtual Commencement. Each school will have their own virtual commencement ceremony, and graduates will be featured in the ceremony for the school or college of their primary degree. 

Deadlines

  • April 21: Last Day to Submit Preferred Name 
  • May 12: Last Day to Submit Recorded Pronunciation of Your Name
  • May 19: Last Day to Submit Photo and Message for Slide

Slide Submissions

You can submit your photo, a personal celebratory message, and correct pronunciation or your name via the link sent to your email. The default content for all slides will include name, degree, major, and Latin honor (if applicable), see examples below.

Privacy

By filling out this form, you are ONLY requesting that your name be removed from the student slide production of the virtual ceremony, your name may still be included in the printed program, if you did not opt out of that separately and you will continue to receive emails from commencement@pdx.edu.

Photo Requirements

  • Photo must be in good taste and appropriate for an academic audience
  • Individual headshot photo of graduate (selfies are acceptable)
  • Vertical photo, image height should be greater than its width
  • Digital photo (jpg) with high resolution (no screenshots)
  • No writing or imposing any text/graphics onto the image
  • Military: do not wear your uniform as the ceremony will be on the internet

By submitting a photograph and message, you authorize Portland State University to use it as part of the virtual commencement. Every submission will be manually reviewed for quality by the Commencement Team. PSU may edit or crop photos for consistency and reserves the right to decline to use a photo or message if it does not meet the photo requirements above. If a submitted photo or message cannot be used, PSU will invite the graduate to provide a new one.
