Sherri Vogt '24 has spent the last few decades working as a early childhood service provider, but she was always looking for opportunities to grow. Then she found PSU's Early Childhood Intervention in Special Education program.

Kobe Norcross ‘24 knew he wanted to a future in coding or computer science, but didn't know the path to get there. After studying at PCC, Kobe found a way forward at PSU. He eventually earned an internship at Microsoft that cemented his future.

Fostering a Sense of Belonging in STEM

MacKenzie Gray grew up in a small rural town in eastern Oregon alongside classmates she’d known since kindergarten. Once she enrolled at PSU, she found herself in a big city. The MAX terrified her, and her large lecture classes were eight times the size of her high school class.

Eight years later, she's graduating with a Ph.D.

Engineering a Future in Film

Growing up, Jason De Leon had his sights set on an engineering career, with the goal of earning a degree at PSU. As a child of immigrants from the Philippines, he knew that a degree in the sciences would make his parents proud.

But the pandemic made him rethink his plans, and he decided to take the plunge into film.

Empowered by Jeanette

Jeanette Amisi Muibi started her college education at PCC before transferring to Portland State in 2020.

But shortly after, and in the midst of the pandemic, she faced a series of obstacles — including isolation, an experience of violent assault and a lack of stable housing — that almost forced her to drop out.

2024 Honorary Degree Recipients

Portland State University awards honorary degrees to acknowledge individuals who have achieved outstanding scholarship or artistic accomplishments or performed distinguished public service during their lifetime. This year we're proud to award honorary degrees to Alando Simpson, esperanza spalding and Sky Hopinka.
