Participants in the Social Innovation Field Study explore creative implementations of social innovation while gaining an appreciation for the unique role of culture and history in designing for social impact.

Experience

In the first phase of the field study, students develop an understanding of contemporary local life, politics, culture, and the historic context for the study of social innovation. With custom tours, visits, and interviews with leaders across industries and sectors, students observe the connection between culture and implementation in social innovation.

In the second week, students work closely with a local or regional organization, practicing social innovation methods like design thinking and impact evaluation through applied, hands-on experiences. In a culminating project, students present their findings to the local partners and their peers.
