In a smaller market like Portland, not many CPAs have the opportunity to be involved with an IPO. Six months into his new position at Absci, a Vancouver, WA-based biotechnology company working on next-generation biologics using its AI-based drug discovery platform, Todd played a key role in leading the company’s IPO. Todd credits his ability to assist the company in such a lightning-fast IPO process to his prior experience as a senior audit manager at Ernst & Young’s Portland office and also as the Director of Technical Accounting at The Greenbrier Companies. “Each opportunity I’ve had has prepared me to be successful in my next role. I’ve also been fortunate to have excellent peers and mentors throughout my career that I’ve leaned on for guidance.” Beyond the IPO, since arriving at Absci, Todd has tripled the size of the finance team, overseen the accounting and integration for two acquisitions, and managed multiple company-wide system implementations. Looking back over his career so far, Todd says that this has been a level of stress that he never felt before, but also an awesome experience to support a company through its efforts in advancing the development of important therapeutic drug candidates.”
