Lydia Schuh

Lydia Schuh, a Brazilian-American born in the Philippines, was raised in Titusville, Florida. She graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in business and marketing. During her time there, she met her husband, George, and together they are raising their four-year-old daughter, Lucy. The family currently resides in Orlando, where Lydia works as the manager of distribution and infrastructure for Darden Restaurants.

Despite the demands of being a mother and working full-time, Lydia received significant support from her family, particularly her parents, to pursue higher education. "In witnessing their unwavering dedication to personal success, and both achieving college degrees, greatly shaped my upbringing." Lydia's father, also a Portland State alumnus, had a successful career as an engineer for NASA, influencing Lydia's decision to further her education at Portland State.

Lydia developed a passion for business in high school, thanks to the guidance and support of her teachers, who encouraged her enrollment in the business program and facilitated an internship at an accounting firm. After graduating from Florida State, Lydia embarked on a career in logistics, accumulating over 18 years of experience in supply chain management.

"I decided to pursue the MSGSCM program as I realized I was at a plateau in my professional career, with limited avenues for growth and cross-functional development. My goal was to continue to challenge myself and further my education in supply chain," Lydia said.

At the time of her decision to pursue further education, Lydia was working as a logistics manager for Disney Cruise Line, aiming to broaden her expertise in global supply chain operations.

Throughout her time at The School of Business, Lydia found that building connections with her professors and cohort were essential to her success. Connecting with professionals in the industry helped her gain new perspectives and insights from diverse business backgrounds. She said, "The field-study trip to Vietnam provided an unparalleled opportunity for hands-on learning in global supply chain management - it was truly an unforgettable experience."

Lydia advises anyone considering further education to take the leap. "There will never be that perfect moment to dedicate oneself to your education and career advancement. Despite the challenges of juggling full-time employment and raising a toddler, I was able to pursue my degree, with the help of an amazing support system." Lydia believes that the MSGSCM program has equipped her with the essential knowledge and instilled the confidence needed to advance in her career. Lydia has been promoted to a new role, a testament to the value of investing in one's education.
