The 2020–2024 Real Estate Academic Leadership (REAL) Rankings recognize leading real estate scholars and institutions based on publications in the top three real estate journals: The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, The Journal of Real Estate Research, and Real Estate Economics.
In the 2020–2024 REAL Author Rankings, Associate Professor of Finance & Real Estate Dr. Julia Freybote is tied for 5th place, moving up from her previous ranking of 7th. This achievement places her among the top seven real estate scholars in the world. The 2020–2024 REAL Institutional Rankings highlight the top 42 institutions based on publication volume in these leading journals. Thanks to contributions from researchers in The School of Business, namely Dr. Riëtte Carstens and Dr. Julia Freybote, Portland State University ranks 16th worldwide—placing ahead of major institutions such as Cornell University, MIT, the University of Cambridge, University of Southern California, and the University of Pennsylvania. This ranking establishes Portland State as the #1 real estate research school in the Pacific Northwest and the #2 school on the West Coast.
“What I’m particularly excited about is our current research on cybersecurity in the context of commercial real estate. Research into this topic is highly relevant as the integration of information and building systems over the last decade has increased the vulnerability of commercial real estate firms to cybersecurity attacks and introduced a new type of risk with significant financial, legal, operational and reputational consequences,” Dr. Freybote says.
Congratulations to Portland State’s Real Estate faculty for its ongoing research, innovation, and publications that set The School of Business apart from other institutions.
