As an international student, Byoungjun Park (Jun), discovered that engaging with The School of Business community was key to his success both academically and personally. Transitioning to college in a new country can be intimidating, but Jun embraced every opportunity that came his way, allowing him to thrive.

Born in South Korea, Jun spent his youth on the small island of Sri Lanka, where he studied British international education, shaping his identity. His passion for business was nurtured by his family, who encouraged him to pursue higher education. "My family supported my decision to attend college, wanting me to continue my education in business and marketing in the United States."

Arriving at Portland State University with a positive outlook, Jun wasted no time immersing himself in campus life. He held three on-campus jobs and was a part of two student groups, gaining valuable skills such as flexibility and networking. "Through my part-time jobs, I had the opportunity to meet different professionals in different fields that helped me prepare for life after graduation."

Jun's ambition knows no bounds, and he looks forward to continued growth beyond college where he hopes to work in the athletic and outdoor industry as a marketing professional. He advises fellow students to be ambitious, seize opportunities, and build meaningful connections. "Your college experience will be something you cherish in many ways."

The School of Business Career Center’s Events and Operations Manager Abby Burgbacher says, “Jun has tremendous dedication and involvement within The School of Business. He has a great attitude and willingness to try new things and help out where needed. As an international student, he has always made it a priority of his to connect with his community and help other international students with finding jobs and opportunities on campus and outside of PSU.”
