Hamed AL Balushi - Supply Chain and Logistics Management, and Management and Leadership

Hamed AL Baluchi

Hamed AL Balushi was born and raised in Muscat, the capital city of Oman. From a young age, he was always passionate about academics and sports. His parents were his biggest encouragement to pursue higher education. His father, a hard worker, inspired him to push himself to become a leader.

With a strong passion and motivation from his parents, Hamed decided to study in the United States. He explains, “They [my parents] taught me how important it is to keep going even when things get hard. Their happiness and pride in what I had done made me want to do well in high school and follow my dream of going to school in the U.S.”

The decision to study business came from his father, whom he saw as an admirable leader who motivated and directed others. Hamed also felt passionate about returning to Oman with a sense of optimism and new ideas. He chose to pursue his business degree by double majoring in supply chain and logistics management, and management and leadership

“My ultimate goal is to upgrade and update procedures back at home by acquiring the expertise that is now lacking. I am energized by the prospect of having a meaningful influence, leading with purpose, and propelling forward movement. The business world provides an ideal setting for me to put my enthusiasm for leadership and my desire to make a difference into action.”

During his time at The School of Business, Hamed learned the value of practical experience and academic understanding. He became an orientation leader and student building supervisor during his time at PSU, gaining practical skills like communication, collaboration and problem-solving, which helped him enhance his journey of becoming a leader.

For future students, Hamed shares this advice: “My advice for future students is to work hard, take advantage of all the resources The School of Business offers, and join the events. They are all useful.”

Hamed was selected to represent the class of 2024 and be a speaker at Commencement. When asked how he felt about speaking at Commencement, he said: “This moment is even more meaningful because my parents, my inspiration and support, are here. Their support and belief in me have helped me succeed, so sharing this milestone with them brings me great delight and pride. I can't wait to thank everyone who helped me academically and personally on this opportunity. I'm pleased to represent the Class of 2024 and fulfill a dream.”

Furthermore, Hamed explains what he might say to new graduates during his speech: “Congratulations on this amazing achievement! Be yourself, follow your passions, and keep learning as you enter the next phase. See problems as learning opportunities and be open to new experiences. Take advantage of the world's opportunities!”
