Call for Applications: Join a Microcredential Community of Practice!

A unique opportunity to design and prepare a ready-to-launch microcredential during the upcoming academic year

Students and faculty discussing a PSU microcredential.

The Office of Academic Innovation at Portland State University (PSU) is excited to announce a new opportunity for faculty and staff—applications are now open for the 2024-2025 Microcredential Community of Practice! This unique initiative is designed to support PSU educators in developing microcredentials that enhance curricular and professional development offerings.

What are Microcredentials?

Microcredentials are specialized endorsements that recognize the achievement of specific learning outcomes based on established standards. They offer tailored learning experiences that can complement existing courses and professional growth opportunities. Digital badges serve as visual evidence of completing a microcredential and are increasingly recognized across various industries.

To see examples of successful microcredential programs, check out the Florida International University Microcredential Catalogue and the University of Central Oklahoma's Intercultural Competency Microcredential.

Why Join the Microcredential Community of Practice?

This Community of Practice (CoP) is ideal for faculty and staff who already have an idea for a microcredential, along with defined learning outcomes and assessments. Participants will benefit from:

  • A deeper understanding of microcredentialing and PSU’s development process.
  • Alignment of their microcredential with program goals and career readiness standards.
  • Guidance on creating assessments for measuring student learning.
  • Support from PSU Instructional Designers in building a microcredential Canvas shell.
  • Peer collaboration for refining content and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Exploration of effective marketing strategies for a successful launch.
Build microcredentials that students can earn as part of their time at PSU!
