Teaching areas: Information cities, Third World development, political economy of urbanization, globalization of cities, international media, U.S. in a global world, international political communication.
Professor Sussmans's research focuses on the political economy of development, information cities and the political economy of information technologies. His teaching and research explore a relatively new concern of urban studies, both in western and Third World settings: the restructuring of cities as a result of the new international division of labor and the presence of digital communication and information infrastructure.
