Academic Support Program

The Academic Support Program (ASP) is designed to provide eligible PSU students who are struggling academically with additional support, mentoring, and advising. Services may also include access to a two-credit College Success course, study skills workshops, and referrals to other campus resources.

Students having academic difficulties and/or those on academic warning, probation or dismissal are encouraged to discuss their situation with a UASC adviser to determine whether they are eligible for the program. The ASP can put a temporary override on a student's academic dismissal, allowing the student to register for courses. Any student must apply to participate in the program, and admission to the program is determined through a committee decision.

If admitted, a dismissed student's credit hours will count toward graduation. However, they MUST petition the Scholastic Standards Committee for formal reinstatement to the University at the conclusion of their ASP eligibility. Participation in ASP does not guarantee that a student will be reinstated. ASP participation also does not guarantee the release of a student's financial aid. Contact the PSU Financial Aid office if you have questions regarding your financial aid status.

Decisions regarding admission to ASP are based on the following information:

  1. Student's personal statement.
  2. A letter of recommendation or statement of support from an adviser or faculty member.
  3. An academic plan created in consultation with the student's major adviser or an IASC adviser.
  4. Documentation of issues addressed in the personal statement that may further support the student's application (e.g., medical documentation, accident report)

Applications may be obtained here or from an academic adviser in the Undergraduate Advising and Support Center (UASC). To see a UASC adviser, call (503) 725-4005.
