Theatre and Film Facilities

The Department of Theatre and Film is located in the historic Lincoln Hall (c. 1911), PSU's first building, together with the Department of Music and the Office of the Dean. The department has two theaters, Lincoln Performance Hall and Lincoln Studio Theatre, and Film production and screening facilities in Lincoln Hall. Additionally, there are dedicated rehearsal, design, and movement studios, and scenic, costume, production, and computer laboratories. Additional Fine & Performing Arts Media Labs and the university Television Studio in Lincoln and Neuberger Hall provide alternate sites for the realization of student and faculty creative work. 

 

Lincoln Performance Hall

Lincoln Performance Hall interiorLincoln Performance Hall, is a mixed-use facility with continental-style seating for 475. It is one of the best production facilities in the region, with excellent auditorium, stagehouse, and backstage areas, and greenroom and dressing room facilities. The hall reopening in September 2010, after a major renovation which included enlargement of the stage and orchestra pit, improvements to the stage, lighting positions, and dressing rooms, improvements to auditorium and backstage handicap access, installation of new seating, and remodelled public restrooms.  (For information about renting Lincoln Performance Hall, please contact Production Manager Bob Goss  rgoss@pdx.edu.)

Lincoln Studio Theatre

Studio Theatre LobbyLincoln Studio Theatre seats 89 in an end-stage configuration, with dedicated lobby, dressing rooms, and backstage areas. It is used extensively throughout the year for smaller department productions, advanced directing student production projects, juries, guest lectures, and film screenings. The theatre includes a computerized, multi-preset lighting control system and sound control system.

 

 

 

 


Rehearsal Studios

PSU Foundation Mainstage Rehearsal StudioThe program houses a dedicated Mainstage Rehearsal Studio, a Movement/Voice Studio, and four additional Rehearsal Studios for Theatre and Film praxis activities.  Rehearsal Studios each contain a complement of basic furnishings for rehearsals, and the Movement Studio is equipped with dance floor, barres, and mirrors.

The PSU Foundation Mainstage Rehearsal Studio (left) was recently renovated to include  stage lighting and  sound/light lock, and to accomodate the full stage dimensions of Lincoln Performance Hall.

 

 

Scenic Laboratory

Scene Shop The Theatre and Film Scene Shop is located directly adjacent to the Lincoln Performance Hall stage, and a few steps away from the Lincoln Studio Theatre stage. It reopened September 2010.

Costume Laboratory

Costume Shop

The Theatre and Film Costume Shop includes complete dye and craft, and laundry facilities and over 2500 sf of costume storage. It reopened September 2010.

Design and Production Labs

LH 307 Design StudioThe Theatre and Film Production and Design Studio and Computer Lab include dedicated Mac G-5 computers for design and production activities and film editing. The Flim production suite includes production offices in Lincoln Hall. The PSU television studio is located in Neuberber Hall, and additional FPA labs are accessible for animation, orchestration, and other media production activities.

 

 

Film Studies

The Fifth Avenue Cinema is a two screen house with DVD and 35 mm capability. In addition to the Cinema, Lincoln Studio Theatre, and technology classrooms across campus, the department houses a dedicated film screening classroom in Lincoln Hall, in which the majority of film studies courses for majors are offered.

Boiler Room Performance Space

The Lincoln Hall renovation includes completion in 2012 of the Boiler Room Theatre - a 40-year dream of the department and the late Dr. Asher B. Wilson. It will house an informal performance space seating 75 in 3/4 thrust-to-round configuration, and be entered through a new lobby from Broadway to the sub-ground level of Lincoln Hall. It will include dedicated lobby, dressing rooms, and backstage areas. It will be used for experimental work, graduate student projects, and juries.
