ANNOUNCING ACTING AUDITIONS FOR NEXT YEAR
2012/2013
If you are a Theatre Arts Major focusing on Performance, audition for The Department of Theatre and Film's
Year-Long Actor Training Sequence, taught by Devon Allen.
The Actor Training Sequence (TA 340, 341, 342, taught M/W from 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., courses which count as12 electives), is a year-long commitment to your craft that will take you to the next level in your work, and bring you to a professional level as an actor. 16 student actors will commit to working on their craft together for the full year - an exciting opportunity, and unique within a liberal arts institution. Actors who have taken this course now act on the stages of Artist Repertory Theatre, Portland Center Stage, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, and are continuing their MFA Graduate work at Harvard/A.R.T., The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, among many opportunities too numerous to list here. Please check the TA website for pre-reqs.
**If you are an incoming transfer student, please contact Devon - there is a way to take the pre-reqs. concurrently with the sequence.**
Auditions will be held on:
Friday June 1
4 - 7 p.m.
Saturday June 2
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Sunday June 3
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Please contact Devon to arrange for alternate audition times (devona@pdx.edu) if you cannot attend these posted times, or with any questions you may have.
For the audition, please prepare (memorized and worked on to the best of your ability) a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue. The audition is primarily to test your commitment, rather than to test your talent (which is difficult to measure before intense actor training).
The sign-up sheet will be posted next week on the board outside the TA office.
Take the plunge and challenge yourself and your craft! Train with a Master Teacher of Acting and take your work as an actor beyond your current abilities.
Auditions for Theater Arts productions are open to all admitted PSU students in good academic standing, regardless of major and/or class standing. Auditions usually take one of two forms, auditioners will be asked to read from the script, or auditioners will be asked to prepare a short audition piece. Performance dates and audition Callback times are posted with the audition details, so students can be sure they can be available for rehearsals and performances. Mainstage theater auditions take place in mid-Sept for Fall, early December for Winter, and early March for Spring term. Second Season theater auditions take place in June for Fall, November for Winter, and January for Spring. For Mainstage Auditions, scripts are placed at the Reserve Desk in Millar Library approximately four weeks before auditions are held. For full details on all audition calls in the department, watch this page.
