GRE Subject Tests

The SHAC Testing Services administers the GRE Subject Tests only and does NOT administer the GRE General Test. Click here for more details on the General GRE.

FEES

The stand test administion fee is $140 that you pay when you register with ETS. Special handling request fees vary. Go here for more information.
REGISTRATION

You can register for the Subject GRE Tests in the two following ways:

*Register Online: Go to the ETS website to register.

*Register via Postal Mail: You can find registration forms inside GRE Subject Test bulletins and on the GRE Subject Test website. Additionally, you can find bulletins at the SHAC Testing Services. Go here for a map and directions.

STAND-BY REGISTRATION

If you miss the registration deadline, you may still report to the testing location on the test date and try to get a seat as a "stand-by." There is an additional fee ($50 extra), and admissions to the test is not guaranteed for stand-bys. The following is the procedure if you choose to test as a stand-by:

  1. Report to the test location at least a half hour early. Call ETS for the official reporting time and test location at (800) 257-5123.
  2. Have your registration form completely filled out and fees ready to be collected. You can find registration forms inside GRE Subject Test bulletins and on the GRE Subject Test website. Additionally, you can find bulletins at the SHAC Testing Services. Go here for a map and directions.
  3. Sign in on the official Stand-by Sign-in Sheet that the testing staff posted.
  4. Wait for testing staff to determine whether they have test materials and an extra seat for you.
  5. If you are admitted, the testing staff will collect your registration form and fees. Testing staff cannot answer specific registration questions or verify the amount paid. You must deal directly with ETS regarding registration, scoring, and score reporting.

Your admissions ticket that ETS sent you has the information that you will need for test day (e.g. where to report and what to bring). While the SHAC Testing Services administers the GRE Subject Tests, the exam is usually given at another location on campus. See your admission ticket for the testing location.
