College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) provides you with the opportunity to receive college credit for your knowledge in a specific area. We offer all CLEP exams and Military CLEP testing to anyone. With over 2,900 colleges that grant credit and/or advanced standing to those who pass CLEP exams, taking a CLEP can save you time and money. Please Note:

  • Before registering for a CLEP exam, check with an adviser at your school/institution to determine whether CLEP credits will satisfy your personal degree requirements.
  • All CLEP exams are given at PSU, but not all CLEP exams are granted credit for PSU students. Check the PSU CLEP Table for exams approved for PSU students.
  • When you request academic transcripts, you must also request a separate CLEP transcript. Click here for details.
  • You must be on time for your CLEP testing appointment. Late arrivals will not be tested and will be charged $25 to reschedule.
    FEES

    The two fees, one for PSU and another for CLEP, total to $102 and must be paid separately for each CLEP exam.

    SHAC Testing Services charges a non-refundable $25 registration/scheduling fee that you can pay with cash or check (made out to PSU) or bill your PSU student account. If you reschedule, you must pay the $25 scheduling fee.

    CLEP charges a separate $77 to take its exam, which you can pay with check (made out to CLEP) or credit/debit card.

    REGISTRATION

    You can register for CLEP in the following two ways:

    *Register in Person: At the SHAC Testing Services, you will fill out the form in our office and pay the $25 PSU fee. We are not equipped to accept debit/credit cards for this fee. Go here for directions and parking information.


    *Register via Postal Mail: Print the CLEP Registration Form. Make checks payable to PSU. Mail-in registrations must be received at least 1 week prior to requested test date. Fill out the form and send it with the $25 non-refundable PSU fee to:

    MAKING AN APPOINTMENT We will schedule appointments only after we receive the $25 scheduling fee for each test and completed registration form. Two-hour appointment times are Monday through Thursday at 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM. You must be on time for your appointment; we do not test late arrivals and will charge you a $25 fee to reschedule.
    TEST DAY

    Bring the following items:

    • Current government-issued photo ID with a signature (e.g. Driver's License or Passport).
    • A second form of ID with a photo or signature.
    • $77 for the CLEP fee. Bring check or credit/debit card only.
    SCORES

    You will see your unofficial score on the computer screen and receive an unofficial score report immediately after the exam. The institution that you designate will receive the official score report in approximately 10-15 business days after your test date. You can find out what your score means at the College Board website.

    Not all CLEP exams are accepted at PSU; check the PSU CLEP Table for exams approved for PSU students.

    CLEP Transcript Information

    When requesting academic transcripts, you must request a separate CLEP transcript from:

    Be sure to include:

    • Completed Transcript Request Form
