The Institute for Sustainable Solutions (ISS) is the focal point for sustainability at Portland State and an engine of change for higher education and the world. We advance transdisciplinary research, education and outreach, connecting community and global partners to help lead society to a sustainable and desirable future.

The Institute administers the ten-year, $25 million challenge grant for sustainability made by the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation to Portland State in September 2008.

The Institute also manages the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability, an integrated series of courses covering the social, economic and environmental spheres of the sustainability.
