The Green Commuter Program

Commuting Towards a Carbon Neutral Future

As part of the Presidents Climate Commitment towards obtaining carbon neutrality, Portland State University will now be offering to all students, staff, and faculty the ability to offset their carbon emissions that are produced as a result of their commute to and from the University. First and foremost we encourage using alternative modes of transportation that result in low or no carbon emissions. For those who don't necessarily have that option to them, you can now reduce the impacts of your carbon footprint through the purchase of a Greentag.

A PSU Greentag

Portland State University has partnered up with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation  to offer the PSU Green Commuter Program. A purchase of a PSU Green Commuter Green Tag is equal to replacing 1,000 kWh of energy from traditional polluting sources currently on the power grid with a 1,000 kWh produced from renewable green sources. This translates to 1,400 lbs. of CO2 being offset equaling roughly 1,500 miles of driving. Green tags purchased through this program will be invested in Columbia Basin Wind, a Green-E certified wind project in eastern Oregon and Washington.

Pricing

The cost for one term of offsets or one Greentag is $15. In exchange you will receive a Green Commuter sticker with an additional sticker marking the term of purchase. These stickers can then be placed fashionably in your car window.

Purchasing

Purchases may be made at the Cashiers office in the Neuberger Hall lobby. A receipt will be given to you that you can then bring to the Sustainability Office (2nd floor Koinonia House across the street from Lincoln Hall) where it can be exchanged for a Green Commuter sticker. We will also be tabling around campus at designated times at the beginning of each quarter. We will post tabling times on this page when they are confirmed.

Thank you for showing your commitment to helping PSU become carbon neutral. For additonal questions concerning this program please contact the Sustainability Office by phone: 503-725-4312 or by email: zagarola@pdx.edu
