Reducing PSU's Carbon Footprint
Energy Management
Oregon state agencies have adopted strong energy conservation goals. We hope to reduce energy consumption to 20% below 2000 levels by 2015 (OR HB 3612). Portland State is also in line to meet the Governor's renewable energy goal. PSU's electricity is derrived from 20% renewable sources in 2008, 50% in 2009, and 100% in 2010. The PSU Sustainability Office is beginning to update an energy management plan for conservation and on-site generation.
Utilities Use Task Force
The Utilities Use Task Force is a long-term program to track all of PSU's energy consumption. Currently it is tracking data for electricity and will eventually collect data for water and gas consumption. It will conduct cost/benefit analysis on all possible tasks to conserve electricity/water/gas, and then implementing feasible tasks and installing energy efficient technology.

Cramer Hall Solar Photovoltaic Test Facility
In the coming months PSU will be installing a ~7KW solar photovoltaic test facility with arrays of varying capacities and sizes. The facility will be used as a research site to study the performance of different photovoltaics and inverter combinations in Portland's weather conditions.
