Campus Operations
Many people take for granted things such as access to public transportation, healthy and delicious food, well-functioning buildings, clean water, and even clean bathrooms! Luckily, folks in offices throughout Portland State University are tasked with making sure these features and services are available to members of the PSU community, regardless of whether or not they stay up nights thinking about them.
The Sustainability Group partners with these offices to ensure that they have the necessary tools, resources and knowledge to perform their duties to a high degree of social, economic, and environmental responsibility. We work with Aramark, PSU's food services provider, in developing standards for local and organic sourcing, kitchen composting, and green purchasing. We collaborate regularly with Facilities & Planning offices on new construction and retrofit projects such as the new LEED Silver Greenhouses, and partner with student organizations on construction projects like the Cob Dialogue Dome, Cob Oven, and Cob Bench located in the Park Blocks.
By incorporating social, economic, and environmental sustainability practices into ongoing campus operations, the Sustainability Group works to make Portland State University a leader and model of sustainable practices for institutions of higher education.
