Chuck it for Charity

Chuck It For Charity is another way PSU Recycles! is working hard to reduce waste on campus. Each Spring, students moving out of residence halls have lots of items they no longer want or need. Instead of filling up the landfill, students have the opportunity to Chuck It For Charity! We collect gently used household items, clothes & blankets and non-perishable food items to donate to charity.

Look for collection bins in the lobbies of the following buildings:

  • ONDINE RESIDENCE HALL

  • BROADWAY HOUSING BUILDING

  • MONTGOMERY RESIDENCE HALL

  • BLUMEL HALL

The following items are collected:

  • Clothing: Gently worn items of any size.  Warm coats especially needed
  • Furniture: Dressers, kitchen tables and chairs, coffee tables, end tables, bookshelves.
  • Kitchenware: Pots, pans, mixing bowls, dishes and dish racks, glassware, silverware, toasters, coffee makers, blenders, mixers and microwave ovens in good working order.
  • Small Appliances: Lamps, clocks, radios, televisions, irons, vacuum cleaners, phones, fans and space heaters.
  • Basic Household Items: Sheets, blankets, towels, area rugs, ironing boards, mirrors, mops, brooms, laundry baskets.
  • Non-perishable Food Items: Unopenned cans and boxes of food not past expiration date

donating

Last year 2,054 lbs of clothes, shoes, blankets and general housewares were donated to Friends of Seasonal and Service Workers (FSSW) and the surplus was returned to students at the first annual PSU Recycles! Rummage Sale with $600 in proceeds going to the charity.
