The Campus Sustainability Office ensures that environmentally responsible practices are incorporated into campus operations and services by:

Benchmarking PSU's sustainability performance

History
The Campus Sustainability Office was founded in 2002 as a result of student and staff concern about the lack of recycling and green building activity within PSU's Facilities and Planning Department. A sustainability coordinator was hired and quickly set to work creating a recycling program and establishing a new resource management contract which incentivizes the hauler to partner with the University to reduce waste. PSU began partnering with the City of Portland to pioneer green building and stormwater management infrastructure on campus. Another early innovation was a dining services contract with ambitious goals related to local and Food Alliance-certified purchasing and waste prevention.
In May 2011, CSO bid farewell to Noelle Studer-Spevak, who had served as PSU's sustainability coordinator since February 2008. Noelle helped to build partnerships across campus while overseeing major projects, including the PSU Climate Action Plan. In September 2011 Jenny McNamara joined CSO acting sustainability coordinator.
