Theory-to-Practice Winter Division meeting
We are grateful for the contributions our PSU colleagues have made to our overall understanding of using theory, research, and standards in the formation, delivery and assessment of our programs and services.
Marcy Hunt Morse led us through a de-stressing activity in which we learned how to use measured breathing, daily gratitude, and reframing of our perceptions to move stress into our comfort zones.
Dr. Jean Henscheid, in her keynote presentation Neuroscience, Nuns, and Renewal: Theories for Facilitating Learning and Living a Meaningful Life, implored us to consider how theory informs all aspects of our lives. Jean guided us through activities to help us reflect on and understand better how experiential experiences of learning are essential for sustained learning.
Following Jean’s presentation folks had the option of attending the break-out session that most informed their work. The presentations links are provided here:
- Work-site Wellness: Evidence into practice, or why does it matter and what can we do about it.
- The best lessons happen outside the classroom: Applying adult learning theory to practice.
- Navigating whiteness in the helping professions: Moving beyond cultural competency.
- Panel: Our research to practice: Real world examples from your peers. Panel members included James Ofsink, Cat McGraw, Dan Valles.
- CAS Standards, SAGs, and FALDOs: What they mean for EMSA Assessment practice.
