Professional Background & Interests:

Laurel moved to Portland from California in 2009.  She has experience in the acute, acutre rehabilitation, skilled nursing, outpatient, and home settings.  Her specialty areas include working with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) users, patients with a history of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), particularly patients with mild TBI, and voice patients. Laurel is certified by The Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) and volunteers with Brain Injury Support Community (BISC), a local non-profit organization.  Laurel currently works at Providence in an outpatient rehabilitation clinic where she supervises graduate students.  When she's not working, she's working on her house, inside and out, practicing ASL, making books, and traveling the world with her partner.
