Hearing Aid Fittings & Evaluations
Portland
State University Audiology Clinic offers management of hearing loss for individuals
of all ages through the evaluation, selection, and fitting of appropriate
hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
A
current hearing test (within last 6 months) either from our clinic or another
facility is required prior to evaluation for hearing aids. As part of a hearing
aid evaluation a discussion about specific listening situations, lifestyle, and
communication will take place. This information along with the results of the
hearing evaluation will be used to make a recommendation for appropriate
hearing aids and/or assistive listening devices.
Portland
State University Audiology Clinic works with a variety of major hearing aid
manufacturers as well as a range of hearing aid styles including behind-the-ear
(BTE), in-the-ear (ITE), completely-in-the-canal (CIC), and open fit. In addition we offer all available types of
technology. This includes digital signal processing, directional microphones
for listening in background noise and wireless technology compatible devices.
Prices vary depending on the model, size and technology. Some of the brands we
work with are Phonak, Oticon, Widex, Siemens and GNResound.
Once
a hearing device has been selected an audiologist provides training on
operation, cleaning, and adjusting to amplification. Individuals fit with
hearing aids will have a trial period of at least 30 days. Follow up visits will be scheduled during
this period for fine tuning of hearing aids and to address any questions or
concerns. At the end of the trial period
an individual may decide to keep or return the hearing aids.
